COURSE CONTENTThe course is designed to introduce students to the elements of Journalism, from news gathering, reporting to final printed and broadcast media and, if chosen, the practical basic elements of PR. JOURNALISM:
The history of journalism, how newsrooms work, Role of the Reporter and established news values, news writing basics, the difference between news and feature stories, news writing styles, writing feature and news pieces, interview techniques, preparing and producing a basic written article for publication, law and ethics, sub-editing, layout and design, picture handling and cropping, online reporting and broadcasting journalism.
OPTIONAL PR MODULE: Introduction to Public Relations and the PRII, putting together a Public Relations programme, writing a news release, communicating with the media, PR tools and techniques.

Entry Requirements
Candidates must have a minimum of 5 Leaving Certificate passes and be a minimum of 18 years of age. The European Institute of Communications is delighted to accept mature candidates and those wishing to enhance their career prospects. Academic Qualifications
Upon successful completion of the course participants will be conferred by the European Institute of Communications with their Diploma in Journalism and be entitled to use the acknowledgement 'Dip Journalism' in recognition of their professionally achieved status.
Each candidate accepted for the course automatically becomes a student member of the European Institute of Communications. Furthermore, each successful candidate will also be conferred awarded professional membership status, and be eligible to use the letters 'MEIC' after their name.

We will then appoint your own personal Mentor who will guide you therough the course programme, set and grade your assignments.
