The Academic Council of the European Institute of Communications unanimously voted to honour Justin Green President of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communications Management with the prestigious Carmel Hegarty Award 2019. The award was presented to Justin at a ceremony which was held at their academic centre in Dublin.

Speaking at the presentation, the Chair of European Institute of Communications Academic Council, Ray Horan, stated “it was an honour as the professional body for
communications and PR practitioners in Ireland and Europe to present the award to an outstanding contributor to the profession of public relations in Ireland. His success as a practitioner is well documented both nationally in Ireland but also on a global platform. It is befitting to ensure that his professional status is acknowledged in his home country and the European Institute of Communications was delighted to do so”.

The Carmel Hegarty Award is presented to a contributor to the profession and who supports the development of professional academic Public Relations in Ireland. It has only been presented to 6 people in its 16 year history and has to be unanimously agreed by the Institute’s sitting Council. In addition to the award, Justin was made an Honorary Life Fellow and a Global Ambassador of the European Institute of Communications.

Director of Education of the European Institute of Communications and President of the European Institute of Public Relations, Eugene Grey commented “Justin Green has been an advocate for professional industry public relations education for decades. He has always recognised the importance that industry representative bodies, such as the European Institute, have in shaping, contributing and being able to modify and respond to ever changing trends. Justin’s appointment as the first ever Irish President of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communications Management is an important stage in the history of PR in Ireland. It complements the status of many Irish PR & Communications practitioners working at the highest level in a global industry.

“Justin has taken the baton from his predecessors as President of the Global Alliance and highlighted the important role of professional and ethical practice of PR. We are proud to be members of the Global Alliance and are delighted with the increased communication and activity from the Alliance. We are looking forward to supporting the first ever Global Ethics Month initiative in February next year and will be hosting events in both Leuven, Belgium and Dublin, Ireland”.

Global Alliance enhances its inclusive growth

PictureJosé Manuel Velasco
The Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management held four major events at the end of April in Oslo: the Association Leaders Workshop, the General Assembly of Members, the World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) and the launching of the Global Capabilities Framework.

Each of them connects with the mission and vision of the federation: to create networking spaces that contribute to the strengthening of the associative movement of communicators, to ensure the participation of members in the governance of the entity , to share knowledge from a global perspective and to guide the development of professionals by improving their communication, organisational and management skills, respectively.

In keeping with this vision of creating value for public relations professionals and the associations and academic bodies that bring them together, we have made significant changes to the bylaws. On the side of members, we have added a fourth category (educational and training organizations), in order to increase the range of entities that can join forces through the Global Alliance.  And in the field of territorial development, we have approved the creation of regional councils, whose mission will be to strengthen the association in their geographical areas.

Overall, the changes introduced and the decisions made by the board are aimed at fostering the growth of the Global Alliance with an inclusive perspective in fulfilment of its mission: to unify the public relations profession, raise professional standards all over the world, share knowledge for the benefit of its members and be the global voice for public relations in the public interest.

Digital communicators using Hootsuite as a management tool get a boost

So Hootsuite finally incorporates Instagram. Now with the added feature that Hootsuite has incorporated it will allow you to ‘almost let you schedule content to the photo network’.
Ben Woods writing for TNW wrote in the last two days that “According to the company, scheduling Instagram posts is one of the most requested features from users. However, Instagram’s developer T&Cs don’t allow for uploading via an API, and therefore you can’t reallyschedule content. To get around this limitation, Hootsuite has taken a similar approach to tools like Latergram, which essentially serve as reminders to post your content at a set time”.
